Peter Brown and Dakota Foote have been providing quality video production and photography services in Oregon for the past 5 years. Best friends since 2009, they started their film career in 2017 with “The Vinyl Word”, a series of four shorts written and directed by Dakota and filmed at Recycle Music in Bend. As they developed their cinematic skills, they also upgraded their camera equipment to a Sony FS700 with 4K Dolby Atmos.
Their next project was a series of 80’s horror trailer parodies, including “Don’t Go in the Shower!” and “The Cure for All Diseases”. During this time, they expanded their filming capabilities with a steady cam, dolly tracks, blood squib effects, professional lighting/audio equipment, and a variety of lenses for their filming needs.
After Peter picked up a still frame camera in 2019, they were hired by The Cult of Tuck to do photos and video for a drag show, thus Under/Over Productions was born! Drag legend Deb Auchery claimed they were the greatest photos anyone has ever taken of her and made sure to book them for every event. Word of mouth spread and they began to provide photo/video for more drag shows, burlesque performances, comedy acts, festivals, commercials, music videos, and live bands.
In 2022 they released their first original horror short film titled “Piquerism”, an unconventional home invasion story shot in stylish black and white with no dialogue. The film was recorded with no sound and all audio effects were done in post-production. They also wrote the music and did the visual effects themselves with no CGI. This film utilized every cinematic technique they could and is a testament to how far they and their wonderful collaborators have grown since “The Vinyl Word”.
Dakota and Peter specialize in versatility, being able to walk into any shooting situation with a creative mind and flexible approach to ensure anyone, no matter their background, can be comfortable and feel their creative vision has been brought to life. Between Dakota and Peter’s skills behind the camera, on set, and in the editing room, they’re confident you will be getting exactly what you expect with Under/Over Productions.
Dakota is the main video camera operator and has written/directed a majority of their original films. A lover of films from all genres (primarily horror), you will find anything from “2001: A Space Odyssey” to “Not Another Teen Movie” on his movie shelf. Dakota believes that the camera tells 50% of any story and works hard to make sure there’s real purpose and emotion behind each shot. “It doesn’t matter how amazing a script is, if there’s no passion and craft behind the camera it won’t be as good.” This attitude combined with his skills on a dolly, steady-cam, and shoulder-mounted camera, gives his work an intimate, cinematic feel that’s lacking in many lower-budget films today.
Peter is the photographer, cinematographer, audio engineer, and editor. He specializes in taking amazing high-contrast photos and improving the mise en scene in films with expert lighting techniques. In “Piquerism” he was able to light a set and still make it look as if it were in complete darkness. He also meticulously crafted the sound design and recorded every sound himself. He loves working in the studio and creating the blackout images you can see on the website. With this knowledge of lighting and working intimately with editing software, he is confident he can create lighting situations to provide any shooting environment a client would like. From bright sun-lit forests to dark, noir-inspired smoke-filled taverns, he’s confident you are going to be impressed with the results.
